In-Between Days
There are times when our days feel like they are all the same. Moments move past our consciousness without leaving an impression, one blending deftly into the next.
They pale in comparison to the glamour of birthdays, death days, or the days a truth is revealed and changes you forever.
Yet it is the in-between days that bind our lives together like a humble cement.
It is on these days that we are afforded the time to practice, rest, and wait. We practice new skills, test our theories, and hone our existing talents. In-between days are made for rough drafts, sloppy copies, and trial runs.
They give us time to rest. A moment to catch our breath…relax, exhale, and sit back. Resting days are when we recharge. They are the time for processing the things we are sure of and the things we almost know. Rest allows inspiration to work its way up from our murky depths.
Then, there are waiting days. They are some of the most challenging and valuable of all days. They can camouflage themselves. Sometimes starting as a big day or even a practice day, then they downshift. They back track. They don’t pan out.
Waiting days tease us by never letting us know up front how long they will be sticking around. They can be painful if we can’t see them for the gift that they provide. While we are waiting, the world around us grows and changes. Progress is made and cookies bake.
It is on our in-between days that we get time to know ourselves better. In doing so, we are better able to appreciate all of our days.
Each of them has a purpose. Sure, some are flashier than others and some are rainy. But in the same way that a house cannot stand without mortar between each of its bricks, a life wouldn’t be as rich without all of its days.
Enjoy your day.
